Sports leagues have their fantasy games so I thought it would be fun to have some ideas for a mint product so far out there that it could never exist. Rules: 1. Let your imagination run wild. 2. Have fun with it. Here is my idea, I call it the Pure Metals Proof Set and it would replace the silver proof set currently produced: 1. Production at the Westpoint mint 2. Lincoln Cent; 100% copper 3. Jefferson nickel; 35% silver, just like the War Nickels. I know this is not a 'pure' metal but it would be fun to have it produced again 4. Roosevelt dime; .999 fine silver 5. Washington quarter; .999 fine silver 6. Kennedy half dollar; .9999 fine platinum 7. Native American dollar; .9999 fine gold I know this will never happen and few of us could afford such a set, but it is fun to dream about. Another idea is a platinum Jefferson nickel just for kicks.

are you talking US Mint only, or any World mint?

Or a stamped spherical coin. That would be cool.

Flying Eagle cent in copper nickel (25% nickel, 75% copper) $20 St Gaudens Double Eagle in aluminum. $50 Half Union (octagonal or round) in stainless steel, $100 Union in gold (that's nearly four ounces of gold) $100 note in gold leaf, 25 Cent fractional note in gold leaf.

This is not exactly 'far out there', but the US mint could do a multi-year program paying homage to previous coin designs. For example, in 2016 the half would use the Flowing Hair design, 2017 Draped Bust, 2018 Capped Bust, 2019 Seated, 2020 Barber, 2021 Walker, 2022 Ben, and then 2023 would go back to Kennedy. These could either be struck in the current composition for circulation, or in special sets with their original composition. Another idea is to strike a tiny portion of circulating coins on precious metal planchets of the same color as the normal coin, so people have to weigh their change to figure it out. Idea 3: Kill the quarter and mint more halves.

Thinking 'outside the square': A new denomination : The $50,000 gold golf ball. A standard golf ball made of pure gold would weigh (would you believe) 25.7 ounces. That would be an AGV of $27,300, so $50,000 would be a near enough denomination. A solid gold golf ball has already been presented for a first prize in a professional golf tournament. That's what inspired this post. Inagine a golf ball that heavy: That's 1 3/4 pounds, or 800 grammes. Don't put it in your trouser pocket - you may be embarrassed !

Since this year (2016) is the 100th anniversary of the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime, maybe the US Mint can do a special version of each in silver or gold in either proof or reverse proof.

I believe they are spread doing proof gold versions. I would rather see a silver version, though.
