Hey all, noticed something on ebay lately. I'm always in the market for some average circulated Morgan and Peace dollars, and sometimes I sort by sold on ebay to see what they go for. And I find listings like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1923-Peace...114521192175How does this happen? Do these just not appear properly or something like that? It's a nice dollar in a legit PCGS slab (I ran the number.) It seems like if I keep an eye on ebay things like this can show up.

Did you buy the coin for $1.99? If so, lets hope the seller ships and the item is not of stock.

Guaranteed an incomplete sale or a mistake listing . No one is living on Mars with the Morgan And Peace dollar Market . They are hotter than firecrackers on the 4th of July these days , with many major dealers OOS ! No fool is going to deliver at a $1.99, they will take a hit on ebay First .

Quote: I see no $1.99 Peace dollar in his "Sold Items" history I clicked completed listings on his profile and it sold on November 15th for $1.99. I think he meant to put it up for auction but accidentally put a 'but it now'.

they sell bibles, sermons and scripture for a living...
maybe they don't care, aren't knowledgeable, or are just plain being generous (hopefully in return for some good karma)?
could've been a type-o that should've been $19.99 or $99.00
either way, the seller doesn't seem to be a wolf in sheep's clothing, so bookmark them and maybe you'll get a deal :)

Listing mistake most likely. Contact the Seller thru ebay and ask him what happened.

I posted this a while ago (as attested) on another site. I am trained in research, though I applied my training to a field far-flung from numismatics. I suggest here, also -- and again, that ebay based research should be done with one brow cocked -- too much toxin (questionable, self-serving data insertions) to be safely ingested. Still, brow aloft, I go there, quite often. ********* Sat Jul 18, 2020 11:39 am When I become curious about a coin's market value, I tend to take advice from [expert's name omitted for this re-post]. I understand [name] to advise that the most reliable route to accurate info is to go to ebay and once there skip the asking prices and go instead to check the SOLD ITEMS checkbox in the left-side column. I maintain interest in several non-numismatic collectibles including vintage Disney animation cels. I went to Ebay/ Keyword: Disney cels / Show only sold items/ List from highest plus shipping to lowest. My specific interest was in a vintage matched set of SONG OF THE SOUTH Limited Edition cels. I own #143/350 bought in the year of issue, 1986, methinks. Here's what I learned using the aforementioned research method: On April 30, 2020, a seller using the name rahoregon sold a matched set like mine as "buy it now" for $1,995.00. His was number 88 of 350. : On June 25, 2020, a seller also using the name rahoregon also sold a matched set like mine also as "buy it now" for $2,995.00. His was also number 88 of 350. Does this have repercussions for coin collectors doing research, or is it somehow explainable? Beats me! Kevin

Nice research route! @nss-52. I would, however, dismiss a few bits: those akin to the "1 bid $0.99 followed by the note 'Best offer accepted.'" The bidding obviously froze at the moment of offer acceptance and we don't know much about that offer. You do cite other examples highly supportive of your position, methinks.

On those same lines, there are currently many one dollar 90% commemoratives for less than melt. I see several in the $20-25 dollar range with shipping. Silver is at $26.72 and has been holding near that mark. Just saying.

Probably meant to be an auction and was accidentally placed under BIN. I've done it once(worse than this) and didn't sell it. It was a mistake and before I could correct it it sold. Too bad if people don't like it. I get it but you also need to be understanding. I'll take the negative hit if necessary. I'm also more careful now.

Just perusing the bay for the last few days, junk gold and silver are commanding stiff premiums. Junk silver sits around $30-40/oz, and low grade gold coins trade at ca 25% over melt. Take all the $1.99 genuine Morgans you can get.
Low end gold rarities have completely dried up, though the silver spree emptied a few cupboards of interesting coin silver antiques. Some nice cups and canns from pre Civil War, but not trading in the scrap silver price range.

Just remember the old saying ....." No Santa Claus when it comes to numismatics ." It is absolutely nuts to think you can buy Silver Dollars for a 1.99. Especially with everyone from the plumber to the Uber driver talking about it . Even one ounce Maples are 4 to 5 dollars over spot .

I guess I'm old school. I've had a few items over the last several years that I mispriced, meant to charge shipping but accidently left free shipping checked, BIN when I meant auction, etc. I've always honored the sale.
