Hi all, thought I would show off my just-completed bag of silver. To me there is no greater bargain in the world of coins than so-called "junk silver", at least the nice old stuff like this. All this cost not much more than melt value, but I think has super high cool factor. As you see I've removed all of the newer stuff like Washington quarters and Roosevelt dimes, those you find in change and are not as cool. So too the Franklins and 64 Kennedys get thrown in with that lot. This here is the good stuff. Very roughly the breakdown is - 50 Morgan dollars50 Peace dollars 100 Walker halves100 Barber halves 200 Standing Liberty quarters200 Barber quarters 500 Mercury dimes500 Barber dimesSo equal face value of every denomination, 100 bucks each. Had to get the mix just right and now it's done, whattya think?

First to guess the exact number of coins by denomination wins the full bag?

I love it, especially in bag form. There is something about hearing the clink of silver and swirling your hand in the full bag. Maybe you can throw in a handful of low grade Seated halves to ice the cake!

Lots of history in there! I love the smell of old silver.

Thank you all, yes it is a delight to the senses - sight, sound, smell feel, ... OK, I haven't tasted one yet Here are the outcasts, too new .. well the Franklins are cool because you never see them but they would throw off the proportions, so into the new bucket they go -

Quote: OK, I haven't tasted one yet I'm not sure how true it is, but I read somewhere that people in ancient times would carry coins in their mouths, and silver became the most popular metal for coins because it had a pleasant taste! Well, that would explain the prevalence of silverware, anyway...
