I never knew benjamin franklin was on a half a dollar. It looks like it has a lot of miles on it. I'm sure it's not worth anything, but it's pretty cool. Did they make a lot of them?

Nice find! Worth silver melt value because there were so many of this one made and it is in circulated condition. Ben Franklin was on US Halves from 1948-1963. The assassination of JFK is what made then introduce the Kennedy half dollar design in 1964. If you use a search engine and type in " Franklin half dollar mintages" you can find a list of all of them made and their corresponding mintages.

Nice tip. It's a relatively short series with no expensive stoppers. The proof coins especially with deep cameo are gorgeous.

Nice pickup/tip! Franklin halves was the first set I ever completed. As others have said, this is an approachable collection should you want to pursue it.

What a beauty, and it has a nice story behind it! I like the Franklin halves because they have a certain character about them that no other coin has. I always remember the day I first saw one. I must have been about four. My dad had just come home from work and he told me and my little sister that he had something to show us. He then produced a Franklin half. At that point in my life, a dime was a lot of money, and a quarter was almost too much to imagine. Then to see this huge coin that was worth twice a quarter... well, it truly seemed like something only grown-ups could understand.
