I have been collecting a little over a year now, at least what I would consider seriously collecting and trying to get educated about it and realized that my collection is a massive hodge podge of a little bit of everything. No real direction.
So, I borrowed Jack Sparrow's compass for a little while. You know, the one that only points to what you want.
Well, after my first year on this forum I have finally come to the realization that I just don't like the modern coins.
Yeah, I'll still roll search for errors and varieties, but otherwise I'm done.
My Lincoln collection will end with the LP1-4's.
My
Roosevelt dimes are going to stop in 1964, the last year of silvers.
My
Washington quarter collection would have ended in 1998, but since I have the
State Quarters, they will end there.
*Speaking of which, I have finally been able to let go of the fact that the satin finishes came in my last 6 sets.
I have come to grips with my
State Quarter album being "mint sets", regardless of business strike or satin finish.
My heir can decide what to with that and now I no longer have a bruised forhead doing this

.
My
Kennedy halves will stop with 2010, only because I bought a mint bag of them.
From this point forward, the only thing that I will collect that is modern will be silver, with the exception of those gawdy things I seen at the F.U.N. show. They are absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. If I do collect one, it will be the Florida one only, maybe.
I want to start working on the sets I have backwards, Franklins, Walkers, SLQ's, Barbers, Morgans,
Peace dollars, etc. back when coins were real.
Besides, what will my heir collect if it is completely up to speed when I hand it over? Got to leave them something to do and catch the bug with.
I can only pray that they sign up here and ask for advise and catch the bug before doing anything silly.
This will give them something to collect at what should still be affordable to them without putting the pressure on them to fill a few key date holes.
I know it looks like I'm disrespecting the nickels, but I just don't have much a set of those with the exception of some spectacular
War Nickels.

Besides, they'll fit into the affordable to collect for my heir category.
And if they do decide that they want to spend some money and go for a challenge, they will still need every proof ever made.
