Was given the empty used album by my local coin dealer in May, so I felt obligated to fill it. Two questions; 1) - The '63-D looks like garbage. I have a '63-D mint set (no P set) that I initially bought to use the Franklin in the album. Still undecided if I should cut it out of the set, or buy one specifically for the album. Opinions? 2) - Out of frustration I bought the 52-S slabbed. Seemed like all the raw ones were just stupidly over priced, and this one was a very good deal. Should I leave the set the way it is, add a photo of the coin in the album, get a 'hole filler', or crack it out (this is probably not going to happen no matter how many of you say I should)? I also have 2 examples (1 slabbed, 1 raw) of the '55 Bugs Bunny. I may put the raw one in one of the empty slots. So, without further ado, I present to you my first completed from scratch 1948 - 1963 Benjamin Franklin half dollar Album! There are some reflections across some of them, ignore that. There are proofs from '56, and '58-'63. Not sure why I haven't grabbed a raw '57 proof. The '53-S does't look as bad as the pic in real life, but it does have black spots. The toning on the '54 bugs me.

I would purchase non slabbed to fill the holes.

Looks great! I would most likely replace the 1963D coin but the rest look nice together.

Opinions Below: #1 if you take the '63-D out of the set, are the other coins going somewhere? if not, I would get another '63-D and let the set stay intact. #2 not really sure. Leaving it in the slab and placing some label in its spot is what I would do (have done similar on an album or two myself). But since you bought it for the album, maybe break it out and let it find a new home in the album.

Congrats on your current state of completeness. I found myself upgrading coins and starting a second Dansco collection and then a third Library of coins album. I think I have enough duplicates to begin a forth album now. Franklins are a fun series to collect.

Congrats! If you are planning on keeping the set for some time I would upgrade the 63 D and crack the 52 S. it's your set so do what you like with it!

I would replace the 63-D and patiently wait to find a reasonably-priced 52-S.

Great job and it all looks nice. 1963-Ds are very common - not hard to get a nice one even from a silver melt bucket at some coin shops. 1952-S - crack! BTW - Don't forget other Franklins also are Bugs Bunny. The 1955 is the most noted one from publicity. The Bugs Bunny teeth are simply a die clash from the feathers of the eagle on the REV. Here is a great website with pics of how it happens along with a great summary of dates etc. http://www.franklinlover.yolasite.c...s%20A%20Bugs

Congratulations on your That's a beautiful set you've put together! I would recommend finding an uncirculated 1963-D elsewhere unless you need to cut open the other coins in your mint set. I'd also say you should crack open that 1952-S! No point in buying a duplicate, it's a beauty!

Looks like you can get a nice 63-D uncirculated on ebay for $12-15 and I saw a couple of nice high AU 52-S on ebay for the $35-40 range. So I would look at picking up a couple of new examples unslabbed either on ebay or at a shop or show around those price points if it fits the budget. It's a nice set and sounds like you've already got the upgrade bug which I totally get! Congrats!

Nice set ... congrats ...... I would upgrade the 63D ... maybe your local coin shop will watch for one, and you can use that one .. and a few dollars to trade for a better one. As for the 52 S .... depends on what you plan to do. Are you going to upgrade some the coins, to keep making the set nicer? Do you want to spend more money to fill that empty hole or just crack the slab and fill it. For me .. I think I would crack the slab and not look back.
