If it came back inconclusive somebody may have bought it raw. That's what I was trying to say. I mean, if you wanted the best fake threepence ever, this would probably be it.

I wish we could find out what happened with this coin. You can't end an adventure on a cliffhanger!!

I don't subscribe to many topics, and then usually temporarily, but this is one I did fairly early on and will hang on hoping... I'd love to hear the "end of the story". As others mentioned, I keep scanning various Numismatic News sources, hoping to see something come up about this coin. I'm sure if it had been deemed genuine and had been slabbed and/or sold at auction we would have heard something. Sold raw in a private sale? We may never know the outcome then unless the original poster comes back at some point to give an update.

Update?
There's someone I'm acquainted with at Stack's that I should ask - decent chance this would have crossed his path.

Whenever I see this topic resurface, I get excited, ready for an update to this story. Quote: Update? Nothing new as far as I know. This is a bit strange, as all evidence of this story abruptly comes to an end. You'd think that this coin would make big time news if it came to market. The fact that nothing surfaced yet is peculiar.

This still pops into my head but I've pretty much given up. @larsjan hasn't posted since 04/26/21. A contact I had said they hadn't heard anything more as of late March 2022. COVID hurdles are long gone. If a determination still hasn't been made, I struggle to think of a reason for that. If the determination was negative, I can see where the OP wouldn't want to give a couple people on here the satisfaction, given the last exchange he participated in. The best case assumption I can think of is that it disappeared in a private transaction without formal authentication. They did say early on that there was an offer. That's a LOT of work and expense for Stacks to go through if that was the outcome, but a "finder's fee" perhaps made up for it. Otherwise it was a big loss for them and they wouldn't say much about that, would they?
I got a bit too invested in this thread but oh well, it was educational.

Maybe he just forgot about us. Or he sold his coin a long time ago.

It is what it is. Members come and go here. Maybe he will pop in soon or maybe never. Being a collector of Colonial Copper and Colonial Coins, this silver 3 pence was the best example of a genuine specimen, or, an incredibly awesome and well made copy that I've ever seen.

Vermontensium, it really looks the part and has great photos, to show it off, not the usual blurry photos of most questionable coins out there in the wild. I was really (still am too) hoping for an incredible story out of this to be true.

If this coin turned out to be authentic it would be huge news, so I was really hoping something would pop up about it in an auction announcement or numismatic publication. I do wonder if it was authenticated and then sold in a private transaction which could be a reason we've never heard anything else.
Or, maybe it turned out to be a fake or the analysis returned inconclusive results and the original poster simply chose not to return to the forum...

hi guys,
I haven't posted here for a while because I don't want to get in the way of the auction house research in any way. Just a sign of life now so that you also know the current state of affairs. Unfortunately no final results about the coin yet, I don't hear much about it myself. The only news I got in the meantime was positive. The investigation is still ongoing and I hope to have a definitive answer this year. The fact that they are still working on it is good news as far as I'm concerned.
