I am finishing up a CAPS
Presidential dollars album, and am working on a CAPS
Roosevelt dimes Album and a CAPS Franklin Album. I also have a Dansco
State Quarter album and am working on a Dansco
Jefferson nickle collection...
Certainly no issues with the coins "rattling".. the coins are all stored nice and tight within the CAPS Capsules, and then you must "push in" the capsules into the pages.
In fact, I actually find more of the opposite problem..
Once you put the capsules into the pages, they are not easy to get out, since they are really wedged in there pretty tight.
You can get them out with a lot of pushing from the back of the page, but it's not easy.. but that is actually part of the appeal of the albums.. the coins are very, very secure in there..
You never have issues with the coins ending up "between the pages" like sometimes happens with Dansco albums when coins "slip" out of their little spaces and end-up half stuck somewhere else on the page..
The coins do look great in the album, but the albums are BIG and EXPENSIVE, so you really need to consider if you have the rooms and funds for a CAPS albums...
For example, for my CAPS Roosevelt with Proofs, it takes 2 CAPS Albums (one for 1946 - 2000, and one for 2000+), at a cost of $35 for the first album and $25 for the second (and smaller) album. And then you need to buy all the Air-tight Capsules for these albums (no - they are not "included"!), which is $58 for the first bigger album, and $35 for the second..
So, bottom line, you are looking at $35 + $25 + $58 + $35 = approx. $150 (plus shipping) for CAPS albums for the full
Roosevelt dimes set. (NOTE: Prices are from valley Coin, which is where I purchase my CAPS albums from, and has good prices and reasonable shipping)
Compare that to a Dansco
Roosevelt dime Album with Proofs (#8125) which you can purchase for $25, and is about one-quarter the total size and weight of the CAPS albums, and all your coins are in one album!
So, what I have decided to do is use a combination of DANSCO for some of the "lower cost" collections such as "
State Quarters" or even "
Jefferson nickles" that to me just don't justify the size/cost of a CAPS album..
But I am using CAPS for a full
Roosevelt dimes plus proofs, and franklin dollars, and next plan to use it for
Mercury dime and
Peace dollars.
No easy decision here.. the Dansco albums do look nice, and are very affordable and don't take a ton of space..
But the CAPS albums are a whole different level.. much more secure, and all your coins are in air-tights that really keep then safe and secure and should reduce any further toning.. but they are expensive and much bigger..
And another nice thing about the CAPS album is that they use a 3-ring binder, so I actually put in a page in the back of the "Eagle Certified Coin Holders" so I can actually add in some coins in "slabs" for a few of the more expensive and rare coins and just keep them in the same album.. Just a nice option if you want to do that....
